I’m not even going to look at how long ago it was that I last wrote a post. March has been a mega month business-wise for me, and I’m quite looking forward to a calmer April.
Last weekend we (Mr Rigg, myself and the dog) spent a long weekend down on the River Severn, just near the Forest of Dean. We stayed at the most lovely wooden clapboard cottage called The Priory Cottages, with an outlook across an orchard and past the owners house views of the river. I’ve been determined to share some pictures of our holiday before another month passes, so I’m going to write less and try and mainly post pictures. They are a mixture of my phone and camera pictures.
On arrival we were greeted with a loaf of homemade (and still warm) bread, local farmhouse butter, a jar of homemade plum jelly, eggs from the owners hens, local cider, and garden grown flowers. You don’t get much of a better welcome in my books.
So immediately we tucked in…
We had a lovely walk one day at dusk, down through the fields and along the river. The light was beautiful.
We did eat lots of lovely lunches and stock up on food from a nice place called Taurus Crafts. We shopped at the deli there, which is called La Bodega, which stocks all kinds of local products – perfect for holiday makers. We had Sunday lunch there, as well as tea and cake in the cafe. I don’t seem to have taken any pictures there, but we did make these lovely pizzas with produce from the deli…
One day we did a long walk around the headland, following the River Severn as it begins to widen, before cutting across fields, through the pretty village of Awre, and back to the cottage. Can you believe it’s March?
I loved this rustic shack beside the river – and with a chimney!
Buddy hunting for bees…silly dog…
One of my favourite pictures, I love the colours…
I spied this vegetable patch through the hedge, the last remainders of the brussel sprouts.
We fell in love with this cottage…
…and then this one…
Then we had our first barbecue of 2012. Can you spot Mr Rigg’s admirer in the background? I think she was rather keen on the sausages he was cooking…
We ate lots of this for breakfast (fully local – local smoked pancetta from La Bodega, eggs and bread from the owners of The Priory Cottages)…
And the dog did a lot of this (seemed fascinated by the French doors and being able to watch the world go past)…
Check out the neighbours cool treehouse…
And before we left on the last day, we had one last wander down to the river, through the owners beautiful garden.
I am so going to miss this beautiful view.
If you are looking for a holiday cottage that is: peaceful, relaxing, welcoming, dog-friendly, cosy, clean, airy, and in the most heavenly spot, then take a look at The Priory Cottages.

It looks lovely, but a loaf of homemade bread with local butter and homemade jam is just wonderful. Lucky you!

What lovely walks you had! Sounds like the perfect break away from it all. That deli looks really cool too what a treat to have access to something like that when you’re away. Looks like Buddy had a lovely holiday too 🙂
