I can’t quite believe that my ‘little’ sister – Izzy – turned eighteen today.  Mr Rigg and I spent the weekend in Gloucestershire with my family celebrating her birthday.  My mom and I attempted to take her out on Saturday morning to her favourite local cafe for hot chocolate and brownies, but it was closed so I improvised…

Homemade hot chocolate – made by grating a bar of Cadbury’s into hot milk and topping with whipped cream (double cream whipped up) and mini marshmallows.  And a slice of Rocky Road from a local deli, customised with mini marshmallows – I used a dab of cream to get them to stay in place.

We went to a local pub and attempted to persuade Izzy to have her first official alcoholic drink, but she wasn’t having any of it.  Luckily we managed to snap a few photos of her looking like she might be downing a pint…only it was J20…

For dinner I put together an Asian feast, as requested by Izzy – with sushi (not homemade), rice paper wraps filled with raw veggies and rice noodles, and gyoza.  We also made three different dipping sauces (which were possibly the best bit) and had bowls of prawn crackers.  Seem to have forgotten to take any photos!

Here’s one with my little brother Freddie – can’t believe that young man is my baby brother…

Instead of a birthday cake my mom made brownies and piled them up – we dusted them with edible gold glitter and stuck in lots of sparkling candles…

Then everyone got a bit silly (Izzy and dad) and rubbed edible glitter all over their lips…

Ah families.
